What is Web Hosting?
Web hosting is the act of renting space and bandwidth through a company so that you may publish your web site online.

You can either opt for free hosting that is usually supported with banners and pop ups, or may opt to get paid web hosting, which gives you complete control over your site contents.

What is Bandwith?
Bandwidth is easy to understand if we use an analogy from everyday life. Imagine that instead of trying to get a Web page or file from your ISP through wires, you are trying to drain a swimming pool. The water in the pool is the Web page or file. If you stick a skinny hose to drain the water from the pool, it will take quite a while to drain all the water.

Now let's say that instead of sticking a skinny pipe onto the pool we put on a big fat pipe, I do not think it takes a physics major to realize that it’s going to take less time to drain the pool.

We can say that the fat drain pipe is "wider" than the thin pipe. Or, we could take it another step and say that the fat pipe has more bandwidth than the skinny pipe. And ultimately, that's what bandwidth is all about. How much stuff can pass through the pipe (or wire) at a time.

How do I know if I need Web hosting?
If you want to put your business on the Web, you need Web hosting. You can either do it yourself or outsource it. But since hosting Web pages involves a substantial investment in equipment, software, security and personnel with specialized knowledge and experience, most businesses outsource it.

What is a Domain?
The term domain name has multiple related meanings:

* A name that identifies a computer or computers on the internet. These names appear as a component of a Web site's URL, e.g. wiki.org. This type of domain name is also called a hostname.
* The product that domain name registrars provide to their customers. These names are often called registered domain names.
* Names used for other purposes in the Domain Name System (DNS), for example the special name which follows the @ sign in an email address, or the Top-level domain names like .com, or the names used by the Session Initiation Protocol (VoIP), or DomainKeys.
* They are sometimes colloquially (and incorrectly) referred to by marketers as "web addresses".

The following example illustrates the difference between a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) and a domain name:

URL: http://www.example.net/index.html
Domain name: www.example.net
Registered domain name: example.net

As a general rule, the IP address and the server name are interchangeable. For most Internet services, the server will not have any way to know which was used. However, the explosion of interest in the Web means that there are far more Web sites than servers. To accommodate this, the hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) specifies that the client tells the server which name is being used. This way, one server with one IP address can provide different sites for different domain names.

How can I update Web pages on a Web host’s computer?
Your Web host will give you a username and a password so you can upload changes to your Web page using an FTP (file transfer protocol) programme.

How often can I update my site?
As often as you can build new content! :-)

There are no limits on how often you can update your site, in fact, it is a good idea to update at least once a month by adding new information, removing old or outdated info and making sure that everything is current.

Will you help me to design my site?
Yes indeed, we will review your needs and provide ready-to-use templates. If you need professional design or development services, we will be able to assist. Designing and building a web site is a LOT easier than you think.
